The Prospect Heights Block Party will return on Saturday, Aug. 28, on Elm Street and West Camp McDonald Road. Highlights include food trucks, live music, inflatables, a pet pageant and other activities.
Better late than never, the annual Prospect Heights Block Party — usually held in June — will provide a dose of summer fun from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, on Elm Street and West Camp McDonald Road.
A more than 40-year-old tradition, the Block Party is a collaboration between the city of Prospect Heights and Prospect Heights Park District that hasn’t been held since 2019 due to COVID-19.
“In June of this year, the state of Illinois moved to Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois framework, allowing the Block Party to be held, albeit a little later than usual, but nonetheless, the planning for the event resumed,” said Christina Ferraro, executive director of the Prospect Heights Park District.
Among this year’s attractions are a beer and wine garden, as well as food trucks from Mario’s Cart, Big Mama’s Kitchen and Kona Ice of Arlington Heights. Food options include jerk chicken, cheesy beef, Cubano, street tacos and more.
The party’s Kidz Zone will have inflatables for youngsters and some high-tech fun as well — the “Chicago Game And Go” video game theater, a 55-foot-long trailer that accommodates players inside and outside with video games, the newest consoles, neon and laser lights, amazing sound and stadium seating.
There’s also a variety of friendly and fun competition for attendees and their pets.
Individuals or groups can perform in the GOT TALENT contest featuring different categories for contestants to perform for up to three minutes before a panel of judges to win prizes.

The Pet Pageant welcomes healthy animals on a leash to either dress up and show off their cuteness or demonstrate their particular talent.
Local organizations such as the library, police and fire departments, local schools, Lions Club and more will be at the party to meet with residents and share community resources.
Live music will be provided by Hey Cowboy! and Run Forrest Run: The Ultimate ’90s Party Band.
