The DuPage Symphony Orchestra returns to North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville for its 2021-22.
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra has announced its 68th subscription season, which is titled “Reflect and Celebrate.”
The 2021-22 season is presented at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, and each program features important works by American composers.
“The musicians of the DuPage Symphony are overjoyed to return to rehearsing and performing,” DuPage Symphony Orchestra Music Director Barbara Schubert said in a statement. “In choosing the repertoire for the coming year, I have tried to reflect on the very serious challenges we face, and also celebrate the unique ability that great music holds to comfort, inspire, and unite people from all backgrounds.”
The five-concert season consists of:
• “Darkness & Light” on Oct. 16, featuring Bernstein’s “Candide” overture, Wiliam Grant Still’s “Poem for Orchestra,” Ticheli’s “An American Elegy” and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9.
• “Inspiration” on Nov. 20, featuring Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, Schuman’s “New England Triptych” and Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet: Fantasy Overture.”
• “Striving for Justice” on Feb. 5, featuring Bernstein’s “On the Waterfront” Suite, Florence Price’s 1933 Symphony in E Minor and Beethoven’s “Lenore Overture No. 2.”

• “Reflections” on March 19, featuring William Grant Still’s “The American Southwest,” Michael Udow’s “The Shattered Mirror Suite” and Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien.”
• “Celebrations” on April 30, featuring the Naperville Chorus in Roy Harris’ “Folk Song Symphony,” Copland’s “Tender Land Suite” and American spirituals.
Each concert is at 7:30 p.m., with an extra 3 p.m. matinee of “Celebrations” on Sunday, May 1. There are also extra “Yuletide Cheer” holiday concerts at 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.
