If you’re a fan of playing bags, then grab a friend and sign up for Pennyville Station and Taco Melly’s first bags tournament, which runs from 3-9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at the corner of Main and Fairview in downtown Park Ridge. The $150 per team entry includes the double-elimination tournament with the chance to win cash prizes of $2,500 for first place, $1,000 for second, $500 for third and a $250 gift card to Taco Melly for fourth. Also, each registered player will receive four drink tickets and one meal ticket featuring grilled ribs, kebabs (shrimp, veggie and chicken), mac and cheese, corn on the cob and coleslaw. Yep, you guessed it. Pumpkin Spice Latte is officially back at Starbucks. There’s more: Also returning is the pumpkin cream cold brew and the pumpkin spice frappuccino. And new this year are the apple crisp macchiato (espresso, steamed milk and caramelized spiced apple drizzle) and the iced apple crisp macchiato (espresso, milk and ice topped with caramelized spiced apple drizzle). And don’t forget about the pumpkin scones, too.

For pizza lovers — and, really, who doesn’t like pizza? — Chicago Pizza Authority opened its newest location this week in Northbrook. The pizzeria — serving up scratch-made thin crust, double dough, pan, stuffed and gluten-free pizzas, plus pastas, sandwiches, salads, wings, desserts and more — is the second opened by owner Diego Cervantes. He opened his first franchise last year in Hoffman Estates. “At Chicago Pizza Authority, we stick to the Chicago tradition of pizza making,” Cervantes said in a prepared statement. The daily special features a jumbo slice and a soda for $6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open for carryout, contactless curbside pickup, delivery or catering, hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Heading back to the office? Stan’s Donuts and Coffee wants to help get your day started on a good note, which is why the doughnut shop has added some new breakfast offerings. Now available are the pretzel Stanwich (pretzel bagel topped with scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon), a breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs, green and red peppers and pepper jack cheese in a flour tortilla), egg bites, hash browns and cherry almond oatmeal. Plus, summer drinks, including the coconut cold foam cold brew coffee and firecracker shake (vanilla milkshake, blue raspberry flavor, strawberry pop rocks, whipped cream and a mini doughnut), are still available for a limited time. There are 14 Chicago-area locations, with a new one opening in the Loop in September and in Rosemont in 2022.

Brunch delights
The Chocolate Sanctuary is going all out for its Sunday brunch. Not only has it extended brunch by an hour — it’s now available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — the chocolate-inspired restaurant has added a waffle pop station, featuring options such as chicken and waffles, bacon and pigs in a blanket. There are also omelet and carving stations, charcuterie, fresh fruit, ceviche, scratch-made pastries, chocolate sourdough French toast, Sanctuary sticky ribs, salads, a dessert wall and more. It’s $28 for adults, $10 for kids 5-10, and free for kids 4 and younger.

Grand reopening
In honor of its reopening, the remodeled McDonald’s on Larkin Avenue in Elgin is hosting a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31. This location is the first restaurant that was acquired in 1967 by the Bear Family Restaurant group, which now operates 32 McDonald’s across the suburbs.
