H2O For Heroes
Whew! It’s hot out. To beat the summer heat and to help those in need, Firehouse Subs is once again holding its H2O For Heroes drive. On Saturday, Aug. 7, bring in an unopened, 24-pack of bottled water — which will in turn be donated to local fire and police departments, emergency victims, and senior and community centers — to Firehouse Subs and in return get a medium sub for free. Win, win.
Firehouse Subs is located at 405 N. Eola Road, Unit N, Aurora, (630) 340-5760; 290 Randall Road, Lake in the Hills, (224) 484-7007; and 920 Plainfield Road, Willowbrook, (630) 541-8881; firehousesubs.com/.

Kudos
Congratulations are in order for Scorched Earth Brewing Co., which just came back from the United States Beer Tasting Championship with some top awards. The Algonquin brewery was named National Grand Champion for both its Doppelbock (German-style doppelbock) in the doppelbock category and Koelspring (spontaneously fermented ale) for the sour beer category. Plus, the brew Hey Chicago Waddya Say?! (a German-style Helles) won Best of the Midwest in the dortmunder/Helles category. All three beers are available in the taproom. “We are so proud of our production team for continuing to brew award-winning beers, both those that are traditional styles and those that push the boundaries,” co-owner Mike Dallas said in a prepared statement.
