“How do you like the new tortilla chips?” I asked my husband as he chomped on a new tortilla chip while we watched TV.
“I like them,” he said. “They’re thinner than the other ones you’ve gotten.”
“Actually, they’re thicker,” I said. “It’s the same company that makes the thin ones you like, but now they make a thicker version.”
“These are thinner,” he said.
“No, they’re thicker than the thinner ones.”
“You’re telling me these are the thicker ones?”
“Yes, they are less thin.”
“They seem pretty thin.”
“Maybe, but they’re thicker.”
“What about that other brand I like?”
“Those are a bit thinner than the thicker version of the thin ones you’re eating.”
“So, these thick ones are thicker-er than the other thick ones?”
“Yes.”
“And why did you get these thick ones instead of the other thick ones?”
“These are also stronger.”
“These thick ones are stronger than the other thick ones?”
“Yes.”
“And that is important why?”
“They hold up better in salsa.”
“Which salsa do we have?”
“The chunkier one.”
“Chunkier than what?”
“The less chunky one.”
“And why do we want the chunkier one?”
“It sits on the tortilla chips better.”
“The thicker tortilla chips.”
“Of course.”
“So, let me get this straight. The thick version of the thin tortilla chips that we like, which are thicker than the other thick tortilla chips, are also stronger, so they’ll hold up better in the chunkier salsa, which sits better on the thick tortilla chips than the less chunky salsa.”
“Exactly.”
“And if I don’t want salsa?”
“Then you can eat any tortilla chip that you choose.”
“You know what? I think I’m going to switch to potato chips.”
“Do you want the ones that are saltier or less salty?”
