It could be argued that Kim Kardashian has never, not once, been introduced to the concept of subtlety. That's perfectly alright though, because there are already plenty of us attempting to communicate in almost imperceptible ways. Enough already! We want excess! Drama! A bold message with the nuance of a wrecking ball!
So if Bella Hadid tells us that the off-shoulder sweater top is being dusted off from the early '00s time capsule where we left it and reintroduced into the zeitgeist, Kim can be counted on to find the most extreme, unsubtle version of the trend.
Spotted in the TriBeCa neighborhood of New York City this week, Kardashian wore an off-shoulder sweater dress with a folded-over ream of fabric that reached from her upper arms across the decolletage all the way down to her forearms, effectively binding her appendages to her own torso. By committing to the bit, Kim has pretty much forfeited her right to do extremely normal things, like push up her sunglasses, scratch her chin, or gesture in any direction other than her feet. Anything in the name of fashion, am I right?
Inspired as we are by her brave experimentations in limbs-optional dressing, we fear we may still err on the side of moderate, mobility-forward style. Which is to say, we're immediately filling up our cart with off-shoulder styles, just ones that'll allow us unrestricted use of our hands.
